Mr. Olinger is a 1976 River View graduate. After graduating from MATC in 1978, Mr. Olinger worked for the Peabody Coal Company for 3 years and Clow Corporation for 3 years. He then went on to continue his education at Ohio University graduating in 1986. Mr. Olinger earned his Master's Degree from Muskingum College in 1992 and completed his principal's certificate through Ashland University in 1996.
Mr. Olinger began his career at River View Jr. High as a paraprofessional while completing his education at OU. He then taught 7th and 8th grade Reading for two years and Math for ten years before becoming the Assistant Principal. Mr. Olinger left the junior high to become principal at Keene in August 2001. He returned to RVJHS as principal in the summer of 2013.
The teacher that made a huge impact on his life was Mr. Bob Albertson. "I really respected Mr. Alberston for the way he treated people. He was fair, honest, and up-front with everyone. He truly influenced me to become a teacher." There were a number of other teachers such as Mr. Finnell ( 8th), Mrs. Woodie (6th), and Mrs. Parkhill (1st) who had a huge influence. It is because of these special people that Mr. O's philosophy for teaching is "our students may not always remember what we taught them but they will always remember how we treated them".
His best memory in school was being a member of the 75/76 State Basketball Championship team during his junior year at River View.
Mr. Olinger really enjoys working out at Kids America and bowhunting.
