Membership
Membership in the National Honor Society is determined by the student's consent, the student's grades, the student's activities, the student's service, the student's conduct record and faculty recommendations. Students may become eligible during their junior or senior year.
Meeting Time
Full National Honor Society meetings will be held monthly. Meeting dates and times will be communicated to members through the Morning Announcements which are read during the school day, through Remind text messages, and will appear on the school website. NHS meets during the "Club B" meeting time.
Community Service
Members are required to complete a minimum of 10 NHS sponsored community service hours throughout the school year. Possible activities will be discussed by the NHS officers and a schedule will be created in the fall. Some activities will occur during the school day while many other happen after school hours.
Dues
Members are expected to pay one-time dues of $25.00 per member. Checks may be made payable to "River View High School". Please mark "NHS dues" on the memo line. Dues are collected the year that the student is inducted into the National Honor Society. These dues are non-refundable, even if the student is dismissed.
Reasons for Dismissal
If a student does not maintain an accumulative 3.4 average, he/she will be given a probationary warning. Upon the second occurrence, he/she may be dismissed from the National Honor Society. Other grounds for dismissal are determined by National Honor Society national charter rules (ex. cheating, plagiarism, suspension, etc.)
Dismissal Procedure
A hearing must be conducted by the NHS Faculty Council to dismiss a member. The member shall have the right to a hearing before the Faculty Council. The member may be dismissed by a majority vote of the Faculty Council.
Appeals Procedure
A member who has been dismissed may appeal the decision of the NHS Faculty Council under the same rules for disciplinary appeals as appearing in the River View Board Handbook.
